This Blueberry Scones recipe is a Starbucks copycat and is even better than the original version. It’s made with fresh ingredients including sugar, heavy cream, and cinnamon. You won’t be able to buy another Starbucks blueberry scone again after making them at home. Read about our Top Tips for Baking Scones here.
Copycat Starbucks Blueberry Scones are perfect for breakfast or with a hot cup of tea. The sweetness of these scones deliciously complements a cup of Chai or Earl Grey.
Making scones is so much easier than you may think. If you’ve never made them before, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by this fact after you’ve tried it. Once you mix all the ingredients, you will have a soft, lumpy, beautiful dough. The butter needs to be cold when it’s mixed in and baked (which means the dough will be lumpy). This will help the scones be airy and fluffy after they’re cooked.

Variations of this Blueberry Scones recipe
If you’re looking to change things up a bit or don’t have all the ingredients listed for this recipe, you can still make great scones!
You can use frozen blueberries if you don’t have fresh ones. Either way, be sure to toss them with a tablespoon of flour before mixing them in the dough to help keep the color from bleeding into the dough.
Instead of using blueberries, you can substitute lemon zest, chocolate chips, tart cherries, or strawberries. You can also make them savory with bacon and cheddar cheese depending on your mood or the time of year.
How to store Blueberry Scones
After baking the scones, you can keep them in an airtight container or large freezer bag on your counter for up to 3 days.
You can store the scone dough before baking, wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, in the freezer for up to 3 months. Be sure to write what it is and the date on the outside, so you don’t forget.
Recipe FAQs
There are two secrets to making good scones. The first is to use heavy whipping cream as a source of fat. This is what makes them soft and moist rather than dry. The second is to make sure the butter is cold, cut into pea-sized pieces, and baked when they’re still cold. If you find that they are starting to melt before you get them in the oven, place the dough in the freezer for 15 minutes before baking them.
This is a great question! You make blueberry scones by whisking dry ingredients together, cutting in the butter, adding the cream, and mixing in any extras, like blueberries or lemon zest. The recipe below will give you exact measurements and instructions.
The Starbucks website has a list of all the ingredients in their blueberry scone. They include flour, butter, buttermilk, sugar, dried blueberries, eggs, leavening, salt, baking soda, lemon zest, and ‘natural blueberry flavor’. While getting a scone from Starbucks may be convenient, they’ll never taste better than when you make them yourself.
